Community gardens are springing to life in cities and town all over the country as people rediscover the delights of getting in touch with nature, and each other. While the benefits of exercise and fresh air are obvious, the opportunity to get to know the neighbours seems an even bigger draw.
One such garden lies in the heart of north Dublin, on a four-and-a-half-acre site in the Santry Demesne. Comprising a kitchen garden, a heritage orchard and an ornamental garden, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic – and with such an abundance of produce to choose from, you won’t go home empty-handed. A big thanks to Linda Quearney for showing us around, and for some seriously tasty rhubarb. Is this the best kept secret north of the Liffey? You be the judge!
