9 Signs The Irish Summer is Nearly Over

So Summer 2014 is drawing to an end. But lets be honest, did it ever really start in the first place? Now there will be some of us who are looking forward to the dark evenings, nights in and anticipating the new season of our favourite TV programmes beginning. On the other hand, for those social types it’s the end of Friday evening beer garden pints

1 – Everyone except you seems to have already gone on a two-week sun holiday. So you panic-book flights to Lanzarote and buy the last remaining pair of swimmers in Dublin.

2 – You’ve started to carry a jacket out with you when you leave for work. And pack an umbrella just in case.

3– You’re considering wearing a jumper underneath that jacket. And possibly socks with your sandals/loafers.

4 – The news is inundated with talk of Leaving Cert results and CAO offers and applications which only serves to make you nostalgic and slightly regretful of your own choices.

5 – People don’t seem to look as happy. Cooler weather seems to scare the shiny, happy people back into the shadows.

6 – You’re seriously thinking about putting the heating on.

7 – Staying in to watch a bit of telly on the couch wins out over an after-work pint.

8 – People start commenting on the fact that this summer wasn’t as good as last year. It’s not over yet you cry!

9 – Those ungrateful people who complained about our short wave of humidity are now saying they miss it now there’s a ‘chill’ in the air. Jinxers!
