What is a Press Fitting?
A press fitting is a new range of pipework and fittings which are predominately metric, whereas most of the pipework in Ireland is measured in imperial. You will need special tools for these fittings, to physically press a connection onto the pipe so it makes an impermeable connection or seal. It’s a combination of both brass and plastic, however the element that squeezes and compresses down onto the pipe is metal, and the pipe itself can be metal or plastic depending on what type of system you are using. A press fitting is bonded onto the pipe. It is mainly for commercial use, in schools, churches and now more recently housing. It is more common in houses because it is a leak proof way to plumb a person’s home.
